Nearly 30 years ago, in 1997, I followed a persistent calling—to make a living by capturing the moments of people’s lives. At the time, I was balancing a thriving real estate business and the joyful chaos of motherhood with two young children, yet I longed for something more meaningful, more creative. What began as photographing neighbors, then their friends, and even a Yellow Pages ad, slowly blossomed into a life’s work.
In 2001, I opened my first brick-and-mortar portrait studio and quickly learned that success required far more than pressing the shutter. I am profoundly thankful for the Professional Photographers of America and for the workshops, classes, and seven transformative years with a business mentor. I owe special gratitude to Ann Monteith and Charles Lewis—true pioneers whose wisdom shaped not only my business skills but my confidence and vision.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of documenting first smiles through my baby club, family milestones, childhood wonder, high school seniors, and even a few weddings. I am grateful for the resilience that carried me through the 2008 recession, for the creativity that opened new doors, and for the opportunity to photograph newborns at Emory Johns Creek Hospital and countless professionals through corporate headshots.
In 2021, I sold my building but continued creating portraits on location, still inspired by the trust and warmth of those who invited me into their lives. Looking back now, I see a career rich with connection, perseverance, and purpose—and I am deeply thankful for every client and friend who made it so rewarding.
While I am retiring from portrait photography, I am not leaving photography behind. I will continue teaching, creating art, and sharing what I’ve learned. And with excitement—and gratitude—I can say something BIG is coming in 2027.
